Alex Camp, AV Tech

Spotlight on Alex Camp, AV Technician - June 2023

Alex joined us as the Audio-Visual Technician in February 2022 after completing an Audio and Music Technology degree. At Fitzwilliam College he will be responsible for answering your technical enquiries, from lighting to hybrid Recording. As well as making sure all technical aspects of your event run smoothly.

How did you come to work at Fitzwilliam College?

At university I studied Audio and Music Technology. Once I had graduated I worked some slightly odd jobs, until I met up with a friend, who was the AV Engineer at Murray Edwards College at the time. He sent me the job advert for the new AV Engineer role at Fitzwilliam College; after hearing about his experiences working within collegiate Cambridge, I applied… Just an interview later and I secured a job that relates to my degree.

Describe a typical week as AV Technician at Fitzwilliam College

My daily tasks usually consist of testing, updating and fixing AV equipment in meeting rooms across College, setting up ready for upcoming events, and catching up with the Events team on future requirements.

What part of your job do you like doing the best?

My favourite part of my role is the production events that take place - we recently had a College opera production in our Auditorium, and I am currently busy editing the recording. Although it has crashed my PC several times, I am enjoying the editing process.

What is your favourite event you have worked on so far at Fitzwilliam College?

I would have to say the opera - whilst it’s a very intense week and there’s always a lot to do, it is a lot of fun to be involved in. Also, the party after the final production was hilarious.
